18 June 2020Even though we know we shouldn’t overindulge, there is something wonderful about the feeling of warm sunshine on your back.
Spring has been kind to us this year. Endless weeks of blue skies and sunshine have made lockdown bearable. But, as many of us are spending more time outside we mustn’t forget to slip, slap, slop.
However, protecting your skin requires more effort than just throwing on any old sunscreen. There are some key points you should consider to maintain a healthy complexion:
Check the expiry date
Typically SPF (Sun Protection Factor) has a 3 year shelf-life, however this decreases after the bottle is opened – so last year’s bottle won’t cut it.
Look out for the words broad spectrum
To protect against both UVA (cause premature ageing) and UVB (cause sunburn) rays.
Get the right level
An SPF 30 will protect your skin for 30 times longer before you start to burn.
How much is enough?
Apply half a teaspoon to your face and approximately 30 to 40 grams to your body.
One coat might not be enough
For an even coverage, and to ensure you haven’t missed any spots, apply two thin coats.
